Eschscholzia californica known as California poppy or golden poppy is native to the North America and was the state flower of California, protected by law in the wild. The golden orange color poppies that covered the field is the reason why California called golden state. Although considered toxic if ingested, greens were gathered before flowering, leached in running water to remove toxins, then cooked. Besides that the flower decoction used on hair to kill lice by Costanoan Indians.
