California Poppy

Eschscholzia californica known as California poppy or golden poppy is native to the North America and was the state flower of California, protected by law in the wild. The golden orange color poppies that covered the field is the reason why California called golden state. Although considered toxic if ingested, greens were gathered before flowering, leached in running water to remove toxins, then cooked. Besides that the flower decoction used on hair to kill lice by Costanoan Indians.

hiking during spring

last week went to hiking near my house area. The weather is nice cloudy and moderate temperature  ( about 15 degree Celsius) many of the flowers are blooming, including the so-called poppy; California poppy (Eschscholzia californic), the state flower of California. Golden-orange in color with four pedals, the pedals close during cloudy, night or windy day; will re-open when sunlight is bright enough.
